Role: Cognos BI Developer
Location: London
Reporting to: Analytics manager
Hours of work - 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:30 to 17:30 however, will be required to work such hours as are necessary to perform duties
Department/ Role Overview:
Support senior management in developing the firm's strategy by delivering relevant and insightful management information through being the primary Cognos BI Developer for all Finance reporting. Cognos Enterprise is used for BI reporting and a new team has been setup around it. There is an opportunity to help form the framework on which the team operates.
Main responsibilities:
- Core technical lead in the development and maintenance of Cognos reports, frameworks and packages in Cognos Enterprise 11+
- Administration of periodic Cognos report schedules
- Manage Cognos Enterprise BI environments (Dev, Test, UAT, Prod).
- Deliver first and second line Cognos support, ensuring calls are dealt with to a satisfactory conclusion
- Employ best practice in all phases of development which includes ETL (SSIS), SQL, Framework Manager models, cube development and report writing using Cognos Report Studio, and Framework Manager tools.
- Work with the business community to understand strategic business goals and develop solutions to help achieve them.
- Roll out deliverables to the business team including any training. Apply rigour to testing and ensure defects are logged and managed to resolution.
- Help establish an internal project SDLC methodology and manage change using this controlled process.
Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requires and internal policies.
Essential skills and experience:
- IBM Cognos BI certified
- A sound knowledge of Report Studio, Framework Manager
- Experience with creating dashboards and Active reports.
- Strong experience of MS SQL or equivalent; Transact SQL, DB design and build
- Experienced in Microsoft SSIS 2008+. SSIS 2014 desired
- Exposure to IBM Cognos TM1 version 9.5+.
- Strong MDX skills to report from multi-dimensional data sources
- Experience in the installation and upgrading of BI software
- Maintain source/version control for all reporting.
- Highly numerate and detail focused
- Ability to see a project through from inception to completion including technical installation.
- Strong background in systems/business analysis for the purpose of gathering and implementing reporting requirements.
- Track record of successfully recommending changes to improve company processes around the implementation of Cognos Analytics
- Able to communicate effectively with finance professionals and IT project teams
Desired skills and experience
- Exposure to extensible visualization using RAVE2
- Experience with TFS
- Report writing, using Microsoft SSRS
- Familiar with data visualisation tools (Qlik, Tableau, Insight, etc.)
