Team overview:
The Capital Markets team within Ashurst forms part of a larger Securities and Derivatives Group.
The core practices of the team span capital markets, structured finance, securitisations, Islamic finance, project and infrastructure finance, regulatory capital, derivatives and structured products.
Job overview:
The solicitor will work primarily with two partners and other associates within the team who specialise in various structured finance investment classes including secured corporates, infrastructure finance, regulatory capital, project finance, bank lending and securitisations (whole business and true sale).
The candidate must be willing to be flexible and should be enthusiastic about working in new product areas. The job offers exposure to multiple different clients, sectors and associated financing techniques.
The job will offer the opportunity to work with sponsors, arrangers, debt investors, corporates, government and credit enhancement providers across a range of bond and loan financings.
The role will also involve working closely with other groups within Ashurst, including corporate, projects, restructuring, banking and tax.
Essential skills and experience:
- Qualified solicitor with high quality post-qualification experience at a major law firm.
- The candidate is only required to have experience in some of the categories described above.
- The candidate must be willing to assist on bond based financings but may have a background in banking, project finance, capital markets or structured finance.
- Experience of assisting on secured transactions will be essential.
- Good organisational skills and experience of assisting on transactions.
- Excellent academic track record.
- A collegiate team-player who works effectively with colleagues at all levels
Recent Work:
- Advising the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on the landmark £4.2 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel project, including the terms of the Government Support Package
- Advising the syndicate of lenders (including BAML, Barclays and Morgan Stanley) and the private placement noteholders on a £2 billion holdco staple financing in connection with National Grid's disposal of its UK gas distribution business
- Advising UPP on its £5 billion Multicurrency Programme for the Issuance of Senior, Secured Notes and the issue of £149.7 million Amortising RPI Index Linked Notes Due 2049
- Advising a European bank on the securitisation of a €500 million portfolio of commercial real estate loans
- Advising a UK bank on its debut issue of Additional Tier 1 securities
