A well established Local Authority in Cornwall is seeking the assistance of a Childcare Paralegal/Executive to assist the team on an interim basis.
This position is due to start ASAP for an initial 3 month period but with the likelihood of being extended on an ongoing basis and/or being made permanent.
Duties will include:-
* Assisting a team of Lawyers/Solicitors on a variety of task relating to childcare law
* Drafting Court applications
* Preparing Court bundles
* Complying with Court directions
* Attending PLO Meetings
* Attending hearings and carrying out advocacy at simple directions hearings.
Some experience of acting in a similar position will be required for this role as, whilst there will ample support and supervision from other team members, you will be expected to be familiar with the processes and law surrounding this area of law and you will require the confidence to attend hearings and carry out simple advocacy on your own.
More complex matters will be dealt with or supervised by a Solicitor. You will need to be good at communicating in a professional manner as this role will involve dealing with a variety of people, including professionals, members of the public and vulnerable individuals.
The ideal candidate will be have at least 6 months' experience of working in a similar position as legal assistant, paralegal or similar. Those who have dealt with Childcare/Family work within Private Practice should also apply. Qualified Solicitors or Legal Executives could also apply if they are very junior or have been out of practice for a number of years.
An hourly rate of circa £15 - 20 per hour is offered for this position.
There is flexibility as to whether this position is carried out on a full or part time basis.
