Our clients who are experts in UK and International consumer information management are looking to recruit a Consumer / Commercial Solicitor to join their team in Leeds.

Description

• Advising the business on legal issues arising from consumer offerings, and identification and management of legal risks arising from these activities
• Providing legal advice on interpretation and implementation of laws and regulatory guidance in respect of the clients FCA regulated activity

Key Tasks:

• Monitoring of relevant legislative development at the domestic and EU level relating to consumers and analysing application thereof and impacts on the clients business
• Supporting its External Affairs team on lobbying activity and responses to consultations
• Working with other businesses and trade associations on issues impacting the information and financial services industries
• Assisting senior management in relationships with regulators
• Working with the Compliance team to set standards, policies and procedures to enable the Compliance team to carry out appropriate monitoring activities
• SME adviser in the clients product development lifecycle process
• Advising on website content (including without limitation financial promotions and disclosure and reporting requirements), privacy policies and consumer contract terms and conditions
• Advising on specific clauses in (and structure of) sales and supplier contracts that are impacted by FCA regulation and any other consumer issues
• Liaising with business regarding implications of consumer facing and/or regulated products and services
• Liaising with and providing ad hoc advice to the Compliance team and first line relating to consumer law or FCA regulatory matters
• Logging legal risks in accordance with the clients risk management framework
• Providing training and materials to ensure that the clients personnel understand and know what is needed to comply with consumer law and FCA regulatory requirements affecting the business
• Conducting training to the Legal team on specialist areas of law
• Help with training and overseeing work of other lawyers, paralegals and administrators where required
• Proactive use of Legal team systems, polices and procedures

Profile

Key Skills Required for the Consumer / Commercial Solicitor role

• Expert level understanding of the law and regulatory environment that relates to the clients consumer offering and other FCA regulated activity
• Extensive experience of drafting consumer contract terms and conditions
• Ability to drive change and process improvement
• Excellent presenter
• Ability to explain complicated legal concepts to non-lawyers
• Intermediate level competence in use of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to offer sound commercial as well as legal advice

Previous Experience Required

Extensive experience of advising businesses on consumer law and FCA regulation
