My client is one of the world's leading providers of communications solutions, and operates at the forefront of rapidly evolving markets.

To help drive the future development and success of their fibre broadband, digital, voice, mobile and TV businesses, they now wish to appoint a Senior Commercial Lawyer to join the Consumer Innovations and Strategic Partners team on a temporary contract basis for a period of up to 6 - 12 months.

The role will support senior stakeholders in the Brand, Marketing Customer Care and Mobile teams in the implementation of the key strategic priorities for the Consumer business unit. This role will involve advising on contract law queries and leading negotiations on a range of key strategic commercial agreements.

Ideal candidates will be individuals who:

  • have experience at a major communications company/organisation or a top tier law firm recognised for its expertise in this sector;
  • have experience of leading a deal team through negotiations on complex, high value, strategically significant contracts and in the project management and delivery of large scale projects in the telecommunications, media and IT sectors;
  • have a demonstrable track record in producing high quality and effective legal advice, and an interest in developing their knowledge of the business's IT, mobile, customer care and marketing/brand businesses, as well as the legal and regulatory environment in which the business operates;
  • work with senior lawyers and leaders to help shape the business's policy and strategy particularly in respect of Brand, Customer Care and Mobile and have experience of helping create departmental priorities which align to the strategic direction of the wider business, collaborative working and an ability to focus on priority issues with clear business benefits;
  • have proven experience of relationship management with the ability to develop talent and continuous improvement culture that drives value through employee engagement and coaching in the moment;
  • have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the confidence, professional capability, intellect and calibre to gain the trust and respect of other executives quickly, influencing stakeholders at senior levels and gaining support and commitment from a broad group and experience of doing so;
  • question intelligently, debating and negotiating tough issues constructively, challenging rigorously and deciding dispassionately and with sound business judgement;
  • maintain optimism and energy when the pressure is on and striking the right balance between taking ownership, managing the detail and empowering others within the team;
  • able to take the lead on significant matters affecting the interests of the business which require legal input and negotiation with key stakeholders and other third parties and own and develop relationships with key internal clients and act as a trusted advisor to business leaders;
  • develop, supervise, coach, and mentor other junior team members; and
  • manage external lawyers and alternative business services providers that delivers value to the business through the delivery of legal services that are timely, to a high standard and which demonstrably provide value for money.
