This a fantastic opportunity for Planning and Property Lawyer to join a well-respected, friendly and supportive Local Authority who provide an excellent benefits package.
Our client is looking for an enthusiastic qualified solicitor or Barrister, committed to providing quality cost effective legal services within a joint legal service to two progressive local authorities.
The Councils are progressing with their partnerships and looking at innovative ways to deliver services. The post of Solicitor is a role providing a comprehensive client focused legal service to both Councils with specific responsibility for Planning and Property work including drafting contracts and advising on a number of innovative property matters appropriate to local government. The post holder will be required to undertake research and development in respect of legislative changes and best practice across the broad spectrum of public service provision.
You will have the ability to advice and brief others, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work, effectively on your own as well as being part of a wider team of solicitors. You will be able to influence and persuade others within a complex political environment and to engender trust and confidence. Lastly, you will have plenty of integrity and the ability to contribute to the good governance of the Councils.
DUTIES
The ideal Commercial Lawyer will be able to assist the Local Authority with following duties:
- Deliver legal services, and assist the lead Solicitor Planning and Property in the Delivery of more complex legal services.
- To manage a diverse personal caseload of legal matters in particular planning and property matters
- To appear as advocate on behalf of the Councils at court hearings inquiries and other tribunals
- To negotiate planning and other agreements on behalf of the Councils in accordance with the decisions and policies of the Councils
- To undertake legal research on behalf of the Councils
- To attend Council and Committee meetings to provide legal advice.
- To represent Legal Services on corporate working groups.
- To provide legal advice to Councillors and senior managers on sensitive and/or complex legal matters.
EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE
Our client is looking for a Planning and Property Lawyer who has:
- At least 5 years post qualification experience
- Knowledge of local government law and of planning law in particular
