The successful candidate will have strong line management experience and take a strategic view of Internal Communications within a large complex organisation with a diverse workforce.

Description

The Head of Internal Communications will lead the Internal Communications team to deliver and implement a clear internal communications strategy .

The post-holder should set robust, measurable objectives for the team based on insight into the diverse employee groups, and should set the tone and style for staff communications across the organisation. They should work with the team to create professional, tailored content and messaging for different audiences and provide trusted advice to senior leaders across the Directorates.

The Head of Internal Communications should ensure that all internal communications activity is comprehensively measured against objectives throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

  • To develop and implement an internal communications strategy for the organisation.

  • To lead the Internal Communications team, ensuring team members have robust and measurable objectives and a clear development plan in place.

  • To provide expert advice to senior colleagues across the organisation .

  • Collaborate with Corporate Communications and Human Resources to ensure the company narrative/identity and employee value proposition will resonate with staff internally.

  • To provide leadership for high level internal events, drawing upon the advice and services of the Events team when necessary.

  • To ensure external and internal communications are coordinated, aligned and proactively fed into the Directorate forward planner.

  • To ensure the Internal Communications team has a deep understanding of each segment of the staff audience in order to ensure communications will resonate effectively.

  • To review and measure the effectiveness of staff communications .

  • Work with the Digital team to manage the development and launch of the new intranet, and help lead a content refresh.

Profile

The successful candidate for the role of Head of Internal Communications will have experience of leading an Internal Communications team within a large organisation and should additionally possess:

  • Experience of developing, implementing and measuring an internal communications strategy targeted at different staff levels/groups. Ideally, experience of leading change communications within an organisation.

  • Confidence, experience and gravitas to provide trusted expert advice to senior leaders within an organisation on the most effective way to communicate information to an internal communication
  • Knowledge and experience of internal communications measurement methodologies.
