My client, one of the world's top 20 pharmaceutical companies, is seeking an interim Legal Consultant for 6-9 months in their EMEA Legal team.

The position will be responsible for independently managing a broad range of stakeholders at EMEA and global level with a significant impact on business decisions and outcomes across the EMEA region.

Under the VP, Regional General Counsel's direction, to provide legal & strategic support to the business's EMEA operations covering a broad spectrum of business legal support to commercial, operational and shared service support functions in the region.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for independent legal support to 4-6 affiliates in EMEA, some of which are multi-country affiliates selling into up to 20 markets including
  • Assisting and advising senior management on legal and compliance risks
  • Communication & crisis management
  • Prevention and resolving of disputes, managing of commercial litigation
  • Providing all necessary contractual support
  • Product launches and life-cycle management support
  • Pricing & market access incl. health technology assessments
  • Supply chain and tender management support
  • Responsible for independent legal support to the Alliance Management function in respect of in-licensed products of high strategic importance advising on all legal and strategic aspects of a specific alliance and managing any disputes with the alliance partner
  • Responsible for independent legal support to business support functions including manufacturing (Pharmaceutical Technology), Corporate Strategy, Finance, and Procurement function
  • Be business partner to the teams and advise as appropriate on a range of legal options and their risks/rewards based on its commercial objectives in order to realise specific business goals
  • Independently draft, review and negotiate and draft a wide range of agreements, such as manufacturing and supply agreements, services agreements etc.
  • Drafts, reviews and negotiates a broad range of complex commercial agreements, including complex M&A, collaboration & license and distribution arrangements
  • Supports regional and global projects that involve complex or difficult issues requiring a high degree of legal skill and business acumen including often difficult judgments on contested areas and issues in EMEA
  • Reviews, analyses and keeps current on legal developments affecting the pharmaceutical industry in EMEA and advises clients accordingly
  • Works closely with Ethics & Compliance team and legal colleagues in US and Japan
  • Identifies training needs within client groups and assists in the development and presentation of training on relevant laws and legal/risk/compliance issues
  • Manages outside counsel effectively and efficiently, and consistent with applicable budgets; works creatively with outside counsel to minimize fees and costs.
