Deputy General Counsel

A senior lawyer is sought, to join a fast growing and highly profitable billion pound business, as it enters its next stage of growth.

This private equity backed company is based in Newcastle and has an established legal team, led by a highly experienced General Counsel. The business has undergone tremendous recent growth, and now has significant expansion and investment plans. The legal team is integral to achieving their aims and so their current need is to hire a senior solicitor, to take on the role of Deputy General Counsel and take on a highly responsible position.

The remit of this role is diverse. It will encompass the day to day running of the legal team covering BAU work, coupled with heavyweight commercial deals, and could include corporate, banking, company secretarial or governance matters. You'll need to be adept on working with multidisciplinary teams and at all levels of the business, and you'll advise marketing, finance, IT, compliance, sales and customer services' teams to provide support and legal advice on all aspects of their work. You'll instruct and manage external counsel where necessary, and you'll keep the business advised of new and upcoming legal changes that could have an impact on the trading environment.

We are looking for an exceptional individual with a range of technical abilities. To have gained the necessary experience you'll probably be at least Senior Associate / Legal Director level, and have an impressive track record. Given the acquisitive nature of the organisation, if you have a corporate background that could be helpful, or heavyweight commercial contracts experience. You'll communication skills must be second to none, and you'll evidence a strong academic pedigree.
