GROUP GENERAL COUNSEL & COMPANY SECRETARY

CENTRAL LONDON

PA Group (PA) incorporates news, information and communications businesses. It is the parent company of the Press Association - the UK's leading multimedia news agency - along with four other specialist media companies. These are Globelynx, which provides TV-ready remotely monitored camera systems for corporate clients to connect with TV news broadcasters worldwide; Sticky Content, the UK's leading digital copywriting and content strategy agency; StreamAMG, a video streaming business; and TNR, a specialist communications consultancy.

We wish to appoint a Group General Counsel & Company Secretary to deliver expert legal services to all parts of the business. Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for all legal, compliance, regulatory and company secretarial matters for PA.

Your remit will include:

  • Managing and developing PA's in-house legal team (and external counsel) to ensure that the needs of the business are met.
  • Overall responsibility for the effective management of all commercial contracts and agreements with suppliers, customers and partners.
  • Monitoring and advising on regulatory, compliance and risk management matters relevant to PA's business and the news agency industry.
  • Litigation management: defamation claims, copyright infringement and contractual disputes.
  • Representing PA with relevant industry stakeholders and complying with the relevant training requirements of the Law Society, where appropriate.
  • Ensuring that contract templates and company policies comply with current legislation, regulations and best practice.
  • Managing PA's legal budget and costs.
  • Acting as Company Secretary and attending PA Group Board meetings.

This is a highly visible role with substantial contact at the senior management level. The successful candidate will have significant commercial legal experience, including comprehensive knowledge of intellectual property, contract and media law. Familiarity with competition law, corporate transactions and IT products is also desirable.

You must have excellent communication, problem solving and management skills. In return, we offer you an exciting opportunity to work for a market leader known for its stimulating, commercial and enjoyable working environment.
