This client is an international law firm with offices across Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. Their areas of work include commercial disputes, insurance, shipping and business & finance.
Their headcount stands at over 600 and growing. This is a great opportunity to advance a career in the legal finance sector.
Responsibilities
Review the monthly P&L and Balance sheet submissions prepared by each office (either personally or having oversight of the team’s review) as well as by the FP&A team
Review the quarterly Balance sheet reporting packs and ensure any issues are followed up with each office
Responsible for managing the Partner Accounting
Responsible for the management accounts and liaison with budget holders
Specific responsibility for management accounts, financial controls and processes relating to the European offices
Responsible for Greek and Monaco accounts (based in London) as well as contract roles as appropriate
Planning and organising the year-end timetable in conjunction with our external advisors (KPMG and PWC)
Responsible for the Group Consolidated Statutory Accounts based on UK GAAP FRS102
Responsible for the Statutory Accounts for affiliated UK LLPs
Ensure all local office accountants and external accountants prepare quarterly reconciliations between local accounts accounting system (Elite Enterprise)
Provide input into, and maintain, the Group Policies, updating as required
Work closely with the Head of Finance to standardise processes
Work closely with the Head of Finance to build an effective internal control framework across all offices
Challenge existing processes to ensure there are sufficient internal controls. Longer term we plan to develop an internal audit
Work closely with Head of Finance and Director of Finance to develop the Management & Financial Reporting function
Attend bi-monthly Finance Forum with International Office representatives to discuss projects and future plans
Act as key contact point with our external auditors KPMG on the annual financial audit and with our external tax advisers PwC
Candidate Profile
Professional qualification (ACA/ACCA) with minimum 5 years’ post qualification experience
In depth knowledge of UK GAAP (essential) and international accounting experience (advantage)
Good working knowledge of Excel
Experience working in a professional services firm environment would be an advantage, including knowledge of partnership tax.
Have successfully managed teams and developed individuals, being persuasive and earning respect
Experience of dealing with and advising on accounting and tax issues, technical or otherwise
Detailed understanding of best practice in internal control processes
Experience of discussing matters with senior management and the ability to concisely explain accounting and tax issues.
Professional and accurate
Effective writing and presentation skills as well as the ability to work under pressure
