Excellent opportunity for a lawyer with at an NQ level to 3 years PQE to join FTSE 100 Rolls-Royce Plc as an Ethics and Compliance Lawyer. A new opportunity has been created within the Global Compliance and Ethics Function for an able and enthusiastic legal counsel to join the Central Ethics and Compliance team.
As a Junior Ethics and Compliance Counsel you will play a key role in the day to day activities of the Ethics and Compliance Team, providing a world class service to the Group in connection with ethics and compliance matters generally and, in particular, with regard to the Group's Business Conduct in relation to the management of Intermediaries, gifts and hospitality, facilitation payments, conflicts of interest, competitive intelligence, corporate giving and sponsorship, offset and countertrade activities and procurement activities.
Within this role you will be responsible for supporting the Ethics and Compliance Team and the operating business groups and functions in embedding a principles-based compliance and behaviours culture based upon the effective management of non-financial risk.
The key responsibilities for this position include:
- Playing a key role in the monitoring and future development of a risk-based due diligence programme for third parties, which will necessitate training, supporting businesses and functions with queries and providing advice on Anti-Bribery and Corruption ("ABC") red flags and how they can be mitigated.
- Conducting due diligence on third parties including carrying out ethical screening and analysing risk alerts, analysing due diligence questionnaires and external due diligence reports and conducting face to face due diligence discussions.
- Negotiating and providing advice on ethical conduct contractual clauses and supporting the incorporation of ethical conduct language into all Rolls-Royce documentation.
- Responding to ad hoc ethics and compliance inquiries and providing advice and instructions on a daily basis.
- Assisting with the development and delivery of training on ethics and compliance matters.
- Supporting Ethics and Compliance verification visits at Rolls-Royce sites.
- Helping the Ethics & ABC Compliance Counsels in driving an organisational understanding of and adherence to ABC and business conduct policies.
- Assisting the Mergers & Acquisition team with due diligence and integration work for acquisitions and joint ventures.
- Act as ambassador for Ethics and Compliance and a champion for compliance as a positive discriminator.
- Overseeing and, in some cases, conducting investigations into allegations of misconduct relating to ethics and ABC issues, including allegations received via the Rolls-Royce Ethics Line.

In this role you will have significant interaction with the business and therefore we are seeking someone who is confident to stand up to management challenge and promote doing the right thing along with an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with employees in a range of different seniorities. Whilst an awareness of anti-bribery and corruption laws and related experience would be an advantage, we are genuinely open to hearing from individuals from varying legal disciplines such as commercial, corporate, regulatory and litigation who would be interested in this type of opportunity.
