Associates tend to work for partners in their own group, but you may also work for partners in others to provide a breadth of experience not only in types of work, but also in the different working practices and approach of different partners.
THE ROLE
Within the Dispute Resolution practice in a team where as an associate, your work will involve High Court matters, domestic and international arbitrations, formal inquiries and interjurisdictional disputes.
The practice encompasses the whole range of commercial and financial disputes including banking litigation, professional negligence, administrative law matters and proceedings for judicial review.
Role and responsibilities
Advising on the legal and commercial aspects of a wide range of commercial and financial disputes including cross-border disputes and financial arbitrations
Advising on legal and commercial aspects of a wide range of investigations and enforcement actions brought by regulators
Developing professional relationships with clients
Supporting the wider team in developing business and raising the profile of the firm
Managing/supervising the work of others including trainees
Providing efficient professional support for partners.
ABOUT YOU
A commercial litigation solicitor ideally NQ-4pqe in a City or leading international firm.
First rate legal/commercial knowledge and analytical skills
Broad exposure to complex, high value disputes
Previous experience giving dispute resolution advice in a strategic context
Experience of reviewing, analysing and providing detailed advice on legislation
First rate drafting skills
Strong academic background and a demonstrable high level of intellectual rigour
Excellent client relationship skills
Excellent efficiency and transaction management skills
Ability to develop and work in a fast paced, intellectually challenging environment
Experienced in running negotiations/meetings
Willingness to present to large and small groups, both internal and external
Experience of working in a diverse team whilst fostering an inclusive team culture.
International opportunities
The vast majority of the work undertaken in the groups is international.
Approximately 60% of the firm's new clients each year are based overseas and the nature of its domestic client base is such that most of them have considerable overseas interests.
