Team overview:

We are currently looking for a junior lawyer with derivatives experience to join our team in the London office.

Our Securities and Derivatives Group is a well-diversified business, which has been able to withstand a testing business cycle.  The derivatives team acts primarily for leading investment bank clients, including Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Barclays and many others. We continue to invest in our product range and our geographical coverage and are able to offer our lawyers high quality and varied work and the opportunity to develop multi-specialist expertise.

   

Job overview:

The derivatives team deals with a full range of transactional, advisory and project-based mandates. Transactional matters may take the form of OTC derivatives or repo or securities issuance, or a combination. Advisory matters may include issues of security, insolvency, regulation or capital requirements, amongst others. The derivatives industry is going through a period of significant change and we are frequently required to assist clients in implementation projects, including review or repapering of existing relationships. As a junior lawyer you may be involved in any or all of the above, with the opportunity to play a core role just as soon as soon as you are ready.

Main Tasks

•          Drafting of legal documents and agreements;

•          Review of legal documents and agreements;

•          Contributing to department know-how;

•          Provision of advice to clients;

•          Matter completion; and

•          Provide structured supervision and on-the-job training to more junior lawyers.

Essential skills and experience:

•          Previous experience of working on securities or derivatives deals;

•          Good organisational skills and experience in transaction management;

•          Excellent academic track record;

•          Intellectually curious

Recent Work:

The team acts on many of the largest transactions and projects in its space. Recent examples include:

  • Equity derivative transactions on household name stocks for a wide variety of investment bank clients
  • The transfer of illiquid credit risk through total return swaps, synthetic securitisations  and various repackaging structures
  • Implementation of mandatory collateral for global bank clients
  • Advice as to the effect of new rules governing derivative, repo and securitisation transactions
