COMMERCIAL ASSOCIATE / SENIOR ASSOCIATE – MANCHESTER / LEEDS

Commercial Solicitor / Associate – This is an exciting role to work with a dynamic and growing team with a truly excellent reputation.  Working with the team which spans Manchester and Leeds, the role involves advising on a wide range commercial contracts as well as complex commercial structures with a public sector slant. This is a highly-specialised area of commercial law demanding a high level of technical proficiency working on large-scale projects, as well as the ability to understand the practical nuances of a given scenario.

SUMMARY

  • Job title: Commercial Contracts Solicitor - Associate / Senior Associate
  • Location: Manchester or Leeds
  • Salary: £45,000 - £60,000
  • Reports to: Partner
  • Previous Experience: Strong commercial contracts experience from a respected firm, whether purchase, supply, distribution or licensing agreements etc. Experience of Public procurement would be an advantage, but is not absolutely necessary. This role is for someone with proven commercial experience who has an interest in working with large public sector clients as well as private sector clients who deal with the public sector.

THE COMMERCIAL TEAM

This particular team has a national reputation and recognised skill set for advising on high-value complex commercial arrangements with the public sector. The nature of the work ranges from giving advice on more standard commercial agreements such as supply and purchase contracts including public procurement and bidding documentation to complex joint venture initiatives within the public sector, such as significant regeneration projects.

Such arrangements have far-reaching impact and draw on a wide range of skills. Technical ability is obviously key. That said, the ability to understand the more subtle complexities of managing relationships between the public and private sector is also absolutely crucial.

In terms of client-base, the team advises a broad spectrum of private companies, public bodies as well as other stakeholders within the public sector. These could include anything as various as public authorities, large private service-providers, international construction businesses, healthcare providers etc. The range, diversity and quality of work available is staggering.

IDEAL CANDIDATES

This role is best suited to candidates with a strong background in commercial law and who are preferably can demonstrate experience of working with public sector clients and stakeholders. Skill sets such as procurement are admittedly more niche so our client will certainly consider candidates who have yet to develop expertise in this area.

Ultimately, the team requires a dedicated, enthusiastic advisor with a strong commercial background who is committed to developing their career in a vast and varied area of law which draws on a whole host of personal attributes as well as technical knowhow.

A REWARDING CAREER

It should be pointed out that this is a highly rewarding and relevant area in which to practice. Not only is the firm involved in large-scale regeneration projects which have an immediate positive impact on the immediate community. Furthermore, the team advise local authorities and public bodies on decisions and projects which have far reaching implications, both locally and nationally.

The political backdrop also cannot be ignored and roles such as these often find themselves intertwined with policy. In short, there are few areas of law which operate at such a cutting edge or that can have such a tangible effect on the wider community.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Whilst a rough salary parameter and PQE level has been set, it should be stressed that these remain flexible. Given the nature of the role, certain capabilities are key. That said, this is a growing team so the salary and PQE levels have been left open to negotiation. The team is intent on attracting the very best talent and developing a career path for the right candidate.
