Legal Counsel

Exeter

An opportunity has become available in our Legal Team for a Legal Counsel. The Legal Counsel will contribute to the success of Flybe through providing a professional in-house legal service as a commercially oriented business partner, participating in the development and implementation of policy, procedure and know-how in the legal function and elsewhere in the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality, timely, cost effective and practical legal advice in order to maintain the reputation of Flybe
  • Develop strong working relationships with colleagues to ensure legal advice is relevant and effective.
  • Provide support and guidance to other members of the team
  • Assist General Counsel in reviewing contracts to be signed by the business
  • Ensure compliance by the business with contract approval process
  • Ensure all signed contracts are added to the contract portal 
  • Provide legal training and updates for the business when required
  • Prepare and update standard form template contracts that can be used for the business
  • Provide legal support and advice to all departments of Flybe including Procurement, Finance, Human Resources, Commercial, Estates, Health & Safety,  Fleet, IT, Operations, Flybe Aviation Services and the Flybe Training Academy

Skills and Qualifications

  • A qualified solicitor, holding a current practising certificate for England and Wales
  • Five years PQE
  • Corporate and contract law experience; managing transactions and drafting a wide range of commercial agreements together with negotiating complicated contract arrangements 
  • Experience of operating in a change and transformational environment 
  • Demonstrated ability to perform consistently and make decisions under pressure and meet demanding deadlines 
  • Ability to grasp complex situations and get up to speed quickly on current projects and practices
  • Strong influencing and advanced negotiation skills, able to work effectively to objectives with the personal sensitivity to be effective across a wide range of stakeholders
  • People focussed, with highly developed interpersonal, relationship development and facilitation skills, with ability to gain and sustain credibilit
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of staff, as well as with external contacts (including authorities) when required
  • Commercially aware with the ability to see the big picture and beyond the task to the wider relevance to the business 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to plan workload and execute implementation to plan
  • A high-level of integrity, discretion, honesty and the ability to command respect 
  • A self-starter with a can do attitude and an excellent team player 
  • Ability to manage legal and commercial risk 
  • Ability to be adaptable in an ever changing environment and operating effectively with a number of competing priorities
  • Open, honest and straightforward approach
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills; accurate and attentive to detail

  • Experience in the following areas is desirable; intellectual property law, IT law, contacts and data protection, banking and finance, competition law, commercial aviation, aircraft financing, novations, lease amendments, sale and leasebacks, engineering contracts and general aviation/airline law including cargo , baggage, passenger claims, codeshare agreements, airport agreements and ground-handling contracts.
