The Role & Team

Willis Towers Watson's Office of the General Counsel (OGC) comprises global teams of talented professionals who provide high-quality legal, compliance and risk and market security services to all areas of the Willis Towers Watson business. OGC teams exert the highest level of professional integrity to support the company ambition to become ‘the world's leading advisory, broking and solutions firm’, while managing our risks and protecting our assets.  OGC's role is to protect Willis Towers Watson and its shareholders by providing timely, sound advice – through legal, compliance and risk and market security services.

A rare replacement opportunity has now arisen for a paralegal to work in-house with the highly regarded in-house legal team based in London.  

Ideally you will have qualified to at least LPC or newly qualified level with a desire to pursue a legal career in the insurance sector.  Former paralegal or insurance sector experience is not a pre-requisite but would be helpful, as would proficiency in foreign languages. The successful candidate will be numerate with good IT skills and have a willingness to help support the lawyers in this busy legal team, which includes work of a UK and international nature.

Responsibilities will be as follows:

People

  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing and liaising with clients and colleagues at all levels
  • Liaising and working with other members of the Legal team within OGC, as and when required

Excellence

 

  • Responsible for managing queries and negotiating amendments to confidentiality agreements on a worldwide basis;
  • Responsible for primary liaison with an offshore legal support team performing basic NDA reviews;
  • Conducting and circulating legal research;
  • Knowledge manager - assisting with maintaining the departmental library, know-how and precedents;
  • Monitoring key legal developments in UK and relevant international jurisdictions;
  • Gathering documents for and conducting file reviews; 
  • Reviewing case files and documents in connection with claims or litigation;
  • Marking up Willis Towers Watson standard legal documents;
  • Negotiating terms of broker’s letters of undertaking and tender proposals;
  • Updating and generating reports from a matter management system;
  • Assisting and working with the legal team with ad hoc analysis and management reports;
  • If candidate has language skills: ad hoc translations for internal use.

  • Highly organised with an ability to work and prioritise systematically and methodically, monitoring and managing multiple tasks to successfully meet conflicting deadlines
  • Must have the sound judgement to be able to recognise when it is appropriate to push back on commercial issues, and escalate legal issues.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
