Role: Legal Project Coordinator

 

Location: London

Reporting to: Head of Legal Project Management, UK

 

Hours of work - Monday to Friday, 09.30 to 17.30.  You will be required to work such hours as are necessary to carry out your duties.

 

Department/ Role Overview:

The legal services market is undergoing fundamental change.  The key drivers of that change are client expectations, technology and liberalisation of markets, with different kinds of competitors, combining to create a more uncertain legal marketplace.  Increasingly, clients are turning to 'non-traditional' delivery models to help solve their most complex legal challenges.  They expect their legal advisers to be expanding their service offering in new and innovative ways.

Many of our clients are under direct pressure to deliver more for less through greater operational efficiency.  To help our clients address these challenges, Ashurst created Ashurst Advance – a uniquely integrated global team that combines the three fundamental areas of legal service innovation: resources, process and technology.  Ashurst Advance joins together the firm's existing 'new law' capabilities, establishing a clear and differentiated service proposition for our clients whilst creating a global platform for future innovation.

Ashurst Advance consists of three core teams - Legal Analysts, Legal Technologists and Legal Project Managers, who work with each of our global practice areas across the firm's international network.

The role is to provide effective project management support, both strategically and operationally, by focusing on client service and process innovation to increase efficiency and profitability through the matter lifecycle.

 

Main responsibilities:

   

•          Support the legal project managers in developing and updating project plans

•          Provide updates to the legal project managers in relation to matter costs

•          Track matter deliverables using appropriate tools to facilitate reporting

•          Maintain project logs e.g. risk and issue registers, lesson logs, change logs

•          Monitor and report on the progress of matters to all stakeholders

•          Compile information for inclusion in reports e.g. matter progress, issues, solutions

•          Provide input into end stage matter evaluations and assessment of results

•          Ensure project management toolkit is up to date and available to all team members

•          Coordinate workflow to Glasgow team

•          Client facing as required

•          Develop tools, techniques and best practice

  • Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requires and internal policies.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Project support experience in consultancy or professional services firms
  • Knowledge of the whole project life cycle covering scoping, planning, execution and closure
  • Good client facing skills, working with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high pressured, detail-oriented environment
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment with excellent troubleshooting, decisions          making and follow-through skills
  • Strategic thinker
  • Excellent presentation, written, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent IT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Production of high quality documentation

Desired skills and experience:

•          Experience of working within the legal industry

•          Financial literacy/understanding of law firm financials and performance metrics
