Our specialist charity client is seeking a lawyer with significant experience in asylum and human rights law. They are looking for someone to join the team on a permanent basis as Head of Legal Protection.
This is a small team which undertakes high quality, specialised work. The role will involve overseeing the Legal Protection team, reviewing Medico-Legal reports through working closely with the clinical team and managing client matters in relation to asylum (including trafficking and slavery) as well as related housing, benefit and safety matters. The ideal candidate will have built up a wealth of experience in these areas and be able to demonstrate a strong understanding and previous application of relevant legislation and case-law. You will need to have been “on the record” at asylum First-Tier Tribunals and be familiar with these processes and timeframes through to Upper Tribunal and the whole appeals process. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to cover housing, benefits and welfare law issues as part of a multi-disciplinary service, although previous experience in these areas is not essential. There is also the opportunity to be involved at a higher level in terms of influencing policy and in judicial review on an external basis.
