Assistant General Counsel, Banking London

To provide best practice legal support and advice to Treasury businesses and to manage
external legal advisers for value and to best effect for this global bank. To mitigate legal risk to the fullest extent
possible and to safeguard the best interests and reputation of the Treasury Services at all
times.
Primary Responsibilities
· To provide legal support and advice to the specific Treasury business and
functions allocated by the Head of Structured Products (Legal):
- to assist in the negotiation of finance linked swaps including hedging
structured loans and securitisation swaps;
- to efficiently and effectively negotiate master agreements for Treasury
counterparties including ISDAs, CSAs, GMRAs, stock lending agreements
and other similar documentation;
· To provide general legal support and advice to other Treasury businesses and
other support and control functions as required on a case by case basis
· To ensure that legal risk is mitigated to the fullest extent possible and that legal issues
are at all times addressed in accordance with Policy Statements as amended and
updated from time to time.
· To manage external advisers for value and to best effect by keeping costs to a minimum
without compromising the quality of legal advice received, monitoring the level of service
provided and maintaining a record for future reference
Essential Skills/Experience
The jobholder will have a working knowledge of legal issues relating to derivative and money
market transactions and preferably have a general banking background. The qualities
required are commercial acumen, good interpersonal and communication skills, a clear and
concise drafting style and an ability to negotiate effectively. It is expected that the jobholder
should be NQ – 1PQE.
