Banking Lawyer
Banking Lawyer - Job Description
The Walker Morris culture is different. We are business advisers, not just banking lawyers. Our clients operate in a competitive commercial environment and look to us to give them a commercial advantage as well as protecting their downside.
We are looking to develop individuals with business acumen as well as technical knowledge - people who understand the effect of the advice they are giving and can place it in its context. To achieve this, we give our lawyers broad and varied experience and training. We do not pigeon hole them into narrow areas of the banking world.
All of the partners in the team are recognised as leaders in their own fields and you will be learning directly from them through involvement and responsibility.
We have given details of some of our work and clients below. It demonstrates that you will have quality clients and jobs to match any in the City. But you will not have any billable hours targets, obscure hierarchy or aggravating beauracracy.
This is a refreshing opportunity for genuine career progression and a chance to be seen and rewarded for what you can do.
The team currently consists of 3 partners, 2 associates and 4 assistant solicitors. We are looking for an additional assistant to work in areas such as acquisition and structured finance, leveraged transactions, projects, property finance, capital markets, syndications, development finance, asset based finance and restructuring work covering the full range of corporate funding requirements.
As part of our property finance practice, we are regularly involved in innovative and complex structures, including substantial facilities made available to a number of institutional pension schemes through a limited partnership structure, and several disposals of significant property assets through the use of off shore property unit trusts.
Our client list includes the following major banks and financial institutions:
• Bank of Scotland
• The Royal Bank of Scotland
• Lloyds TSB
• HSBC
• Barclays
• Fortis
• N M Rothschilds
• AIB
• Bank of Ireland
Recent examples of banking teamwork include:
• advising Cattles plc in relation to £500 million syndicated sterling revolving facilities
• advising Royal Bank of Scotland regarding a £150 million facility to acquire and develop a number of retail parks
• advising Bank of Scotland in relation to the £48 million of senior debt facilities in conjunction with the IPO of Carter & Carter Group plc
• advising Royal Bank of Scotland in the £57 million buy and build facilities for Smart and Cook
• advising on six listed plc company restructurings in the last 12 months with aggregate facilities going forward of £330 million (acting for the banks on four of these)
• acting on £310 million Senior Debt facilities for a private property investment fund.
