Barristers Chambers Office Manager
Barristers Chambers Office Manager - Job Description
A leading set of barristers chambers has a new position for a Chambers Office Manager. This is a key role, reporting to the Chambers Director, requiring well developed organisational and office management skills. The successful candidate will have considerable experience of office/facilities management, ideally within a chambers or law firm.
Key aspects of the role are as follows:
* Building: You will be responsible for all building and facilities management issues. These are many and various, but include: building repairs and maintenance; ordering and maintaining equipment; ordering and overseeing all supplies; liaising and negotiating with suppliers; security and alarms; facilitating the reorganisation of rooms/space and overseeing office moves; car parking; garden maintenance; insurance cover, and off site storage/archiving of papers. At some point in the future, it is envisaged that you will take on responsibility (together with the Chambers Director) for liaising with Chambers’ landlord.
* IT and telephones: You will have day-to-day responsibility for Chambers IT systems and telephones, including maintenance of disaster recovery manuals. You will attend relevant management sub-committee meetings as required.
* Health and safety: You will have responsibility for training, assessing risks, compliance, liaison with outside agencies, safety guidelines (including manual handling), advising on office ergonomics, the first aid programme, and all related paperwork. You will administer the BUPA health insurance and other relevant health schemes for members of Chambers & staff.
* Office manual: You will be responsible for the office manual, which should include all health and safety guidelines as well as Chambers’ equality policies.
* Corporate social responsibility: You will conduct an environmental impact audit on an annual basis. Insofar as the conclusions of that audit are approved by the Chambers’ Director in consultation with Chambers, you will implement the measures agreed.
This is an exciting and new role born out of a recent restructure and offers the opportunity to work closely with the Chambers Director and be a part of dynamic and successful team. Knowledge of the Bar is preferable although experience within the legal sector is essential.
