Business Development Manager - Job Description

The Global Proposals Team, which works closely with the practice and regional BD teams, is a relatively new addition to the Global Business Development function. The major aims of the team are to:
· Help the Firm develop world class proposals best practice and delivery;
· Act as a global centre of excellence for the creation, guidance, coaching and delivery of panel and matter RFPs and complex multi-jurisdictional pitches; and
· Equip BD colleagues with tools, techniques and infrastructure required to ensure value and efficiency in proposals development.
Key Responsibilities:
· The role is broadly divided by two core areas of activity:
o Working alongside proposal teams, providing objective advice and strategic guidance in relation to The firm's most significant and strategic global proposals (both panel and specific opportunities) - some travel may be required
o Project activity focused on developing the global infrastructure in place to support BD and fee-earners globally (e.g. systems, databases, training etc.)
· Both areas of activity will require strong project management skills and constructive challenging/coaching abilities;
· You will work closely with partners and BD management to create and maintain momentum in winning new business;
· You will be expected to keep colleagues up-to-date on proposals trends and approaches being used in the market and in the firm globally;
· You will be expected to bring innovation and new ideas to proposals;
· You will be continually developing best practice and ensuring it is shared globally across all disciplines and applied in proposals;
· You will assist in the design and delivery of training courses;
· You will assist in win/loss reporting and metrics;
· You will also be advising teams on developing targeting strategies, helping partners develop efficient client relationships in conjunction with the Firm's "Client Focus Team";
· You will, alongside the other GPT members, take day-to-day responsibility for the "global proposals database" and the "winning business intranet".
Skills & Experience:
· You will have extensive experience of working on competitive proposals and pitches ideally within the professional services market (experience of other markets also desirable);
· You will be intelligent, pragmatic and have the ability to multi-task;
· You will have exceptionally strong Word and PowerPoint skills;
· You will have strong general software skills (Excel etc.) and ideally some exposure to intranet development;
· The partners and colleagues you will work with have a range of personalities and cultural backgrounds and therefore strong interpersonal, inter-cultural understanding and communications skills will be key;
· Excellent presentation skills and leadership skills are also a must as you will be regularly presenting to and influencing senior partners;
· The GPT works closely with the Client Focus Team and is a small, collegiate and friendly group. You must therefore be a strong team player;
· You must be a degree qualified individual, ideally with post-graduate qualifications in marketing or strategy.
