Business Development Manager – M&A - Job Description
The Company:
A successfully, international law firm is currently seeking a Business Development Manager to focus on developing their M&A group in London and across Europe. This is a great opportunity for a senior business development professional, who is particularly interested in and has a good grasp of this particular market, to focus their skills and establish a sound career in a forward thinking firm.
The Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a business development strategy for the European practice.
Provide pitch support (in conjunction with local staff in other offices). Following up on pitches and monitoring success rate.
Provide client development support to key clients and targets, developing and implementing client plans
Creating and maintaining all collateral materials including European brochures, experience lists, practice descriptions etc.
Facilitating and supporting Investment Banking BD group
Keeping abreast of current deals and encouraging lawyers to write prompt News announcements
Facilitating monthly partner practice meetings; overseeing monthly report to partners and necessary follow up
Being aware of business development opportunities by monitoring published sources (business press, media, websites etc) and bringing these to the attention of partners with tangible suggestions for the approach to be taken.
Overseeing submissions to Legal directories and research interviews with partners and researchers.
Overseeing “awards” submissions and ensuring that any awards achieved are included in the firm’s collateral material and web site.
Liaising regularly with business development/information coordinators in each office to ensure that European efforts in the practice are seamlessly integrated.
Provide up-to-date research and analysis regarding the firm’s competitors and performance compared to the competition.
Together with local staff and European Senior Media/Communications Manager identifying any media/PR opportunities and helping to ensure that the firm is visible in the key business and trade press.
The Candidate:
Is sensitive to a partnership environment and is not perturbed by the need to work in a consensus driven organization when decisions can be slow to emerge;
Is personable and able to build rapport with partners, associates, paralegals, marketing and other staff – across all offices as required;
Can demonstrate a competent knowledge about the practice area
Must have an excellent command of English, good writing skills and must be able to communicate well, verbally and in writing in a way that will influence others;
Is methodical, analytical, imaginative, energetic and inquisitive;
Should be a strategic thinker who is also able to deal precisely and accurately with detail;
Must have an intellectual capability to take on new knowledge and learn new tasks/skills;
Must be sensitive to deadlines and is calm when working under time pressures.
MBA would be of interest.
Competence in French, German or Italian would be advantageous.
Good computer literacy (e.g. MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, databases)
