Brief
We are currently looking to recruit a lawyer specialising in competition, public procurement and state aid law to join the EU & Competition team in our Leeds office. The ideal candidate will have from 0-3 years' PQE.
The candidate will ideally have gained experience in a City firm or large regional practice. We would also be interested in candidates from the Brussels offices of City firms or in-house lawyers from industry or any of the competition regulators.
Depending on experience, candidates will ideally have some background in merger control, anti-competitive agreements, abuse of a dominant position and preferably also public procurement and state aids. They should be willing to handle a mix of work in these areas.
We are also looking for someone who is commercially aware and enthusiastic about internal and external business development. They will be a team player with a strong client-focussed approach. They will also have a strong academic background and excellent communication and organisational skills.
The Group
Pinsent Masons LLP is committed to excellence in this vital practice area and we have invested significantly in expanding our EU & Competition team in recent years. The team now comprises 15 lawyers who work exclusively on competition, public procurement and state aid law matters.
Based in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Brussels, the team has five partners, three senior associates, two associates, one senior consultant and four other lawyers, as well as four trainees. The team is part of the firm's wider Dispute Resolution and Litigation Group, with whom it works regularly on competition litigation and public procurement cases. Through PMLG, the team also has a network of competition specialists across the PMLG member firms in Europe.
The partners in the team are independently recognised for their expertise and quality of service: effective and highly sought after [Alan Davis, Chambers 2007], incredibly good with clients [Guy Lougher, Chambers 2007]; sensible, quick and efficient [Giles Warrington, Chambers 2007]; top notch for public procurement [Kate Rees, Chambers 2006]; impresses peers with her fantastic knowledge in the field of public procurement [Ruth Smith, Chambers 2008]. The entire Group is lauded for being very client focused and well aware of how to speak to the business community.
Led by Edward Anderson, a former OFT (Mergers) and European Commission (Cartels) regulator, the Leeds team (one senior associate, one solicitor, one trainee) works closely with the other lawyers in the national Competition team and also services the competition, public procurement and state aid needs of the Leeds, Manchester and Scottish offices.
Clients of the national team include AXA UK plc, Bombardier Transportation, Royal & Sun Alliance, English Partnerships, National Grid, OFWAT, Hanson, IMI, Aviva and Siemens.
Clients specifically of the Leeds team include DCC plc, Smith & Nephew plc, Glasgow City Council, Yorkshire Forward, Advantage West Midlands, Univar Group, OneNorth East and the Metropolitan Police Service.
