Construction - 3+ years' pqe - Job Description

Construction, Engineering and Projects is one of the largest groups in the Firm and a key target for further investment. The Group is targeted at two sectors:

Sector 1: Contentious and non-contentious construction work for contractors, employers and professionals including PFIs. This area accounts for 40% of the Practice and is growing rapidly.

Sector 2: Insurance (professional indemnity for architects, engineers, surveyors and contractors plus other construction based risks, such as contractors’ all risks, public liability policies and decennial project insurance). This accounts for 60% of the Practice.

With leading figures such as Robert Hogarth, Michael Blackburne, Ron Nobbs and Kevin Forsyth together with lateral hires from Pinsent Masons, McRoberts, Berwin Leighton Paisner and CMS Cameron McKenna the group continues to attract and retain a top quality client base. This now includes Carillion, Mace, Veolia Group, Mitie Group and Hanson Plc on the Contractor side as well as DMGT Plc, Ashfield Land, Smiths Industries Plc and Ridgeford Properties on the Developer/Employer side. The Group is continuing to target new instructions from developers and contractors who seek focussed, commercial, transactional and dispute resolution advice.

We are therefore seeking a talented, personable and self-confident 3+ PQE lawyer to join the team and to be part of this ongoing success story. The role will centre on the contentious side so we are ideally looking for candidates with a background in this area. The role will include a broad range of work covering adjudications, domestic and international arbitration and litigation. There is a first-class client base including contractors, developers and consultants. There will be an opportunity to develop one’s own client base and caseload with the support of a strong and enthusiastic team.

The successful candidate will ideally be from a well known construction firm. The role will provide the opportunity to become involved in a variety of work plus significant and active involvement in the department’s business development and marketing activities.
