Crown Prosecutor - Job Description
Role Purpose
To act as prosecutor and contribute to the work of a Criminal Justice Unit or Trials Unit as deployed, undertaking review, case preparation, advocacy and other tasks.

Accountabilities
Casework Review
Assess the quality and sufficiency of evidence, whether there is a realistic prospect of conviction and whether it is in the public interest to proceed.
Apply statute and case law to assess the potential strength and reliability of witnesses.
Assess sufficiency and continuity of evidence on committal papers.
Decide whether cases should proceed or be discontinued.
Recommend which charges are appropriate.
Decisions on representations to make in respect of mode of trial
Review files in preparation for committals including decisions on number of charges.
Provide agreement to acceptable pleas/bind overs on appropriate cases with Designated Prosecutors.
Casework Preparation
Prepare for prosecutions in a range of preliminary, straightforward and contested casework including some either way cases.
The preparation of committal papers including decisions on the form and number of charges, the witnesses and their order and disclosure of unused material.
Advocacy
Decisions on whether or not to oppose bail applications or pleas to a lesser or different charge.
Deciding when to discontinue proceedings
Deciding whether to apply for compensation costs
