Financial Institutions Associate - FIDG - London - Job Description

We are currently looking for litigators to assist with our market leading financial institutions disputes practice. The group’s work involves a wide mixture of litigation (both in the UK and elsewhere), arbitration and contentious regulatory matters for many of the world’s leading banking and insurance companies and successful candidates will be expected to work in all these areas.

We are interested in candidates from all backgrounds, including the bar and those in-house looking to rejoin private practice.

Dispute Resolution Department

Resolving disputes by litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution is a vital part of corporate risk management and strategy. The globalisation of business and the expansion of the European single market are resulting in more cross-border disputes requiring high quality, coordinated advice. In addition, the increasing complexity of regulation at both national and European levels has given rise to a need for solutions not only in a commercial context but also in the regulatory sphere.

We are leaders in:
• domestic commercial litigation;
• large-scale multi-jurisdictional litigation;
• European and international law disputes;
• international and domestic arbitration;
• mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution; and
• negotiation with, and advocacy concerning, regulatory and government agencies.

Our work includes a broad range of commercial disputes and work in specialist areas such as banking, financial services and securities, construction and engineering, energy, EU and antitrust, environmental, planning and regulatory, fraud, human rights, insurance and reinsurance law, intellectual property and information technology, international arbitration, product liability, professional negligence, property, public international law, and restructuring and insolvency.

Your main responsibilities as Financial Institutions Associate will involve:

• Running document reviews
• Drafting witness statements, expert reports and pleadings
• Running project processes on significant cases and working towards being the lead associate
• Drafting letters / emails to client / other side
• Attending mediation / settlement discussions and draft settlement agreements
• Developing financial skills
• Delegating and mentoring junior associates and trainees
• Participating in seminars / training to clients and other associates and working with our Business Development Manager to generate ideas / plans
• Establishing profile and relationships with partners and clients

Your skills and qualifications for Financial Institutions Associate will ideally include:

• A high quality lawyer with strong technical and commercial background
• Intellectually strong with top class academics
• At least two years good experience at a leading law firm

With superior communication skills, you will work effectively as part of a team and be able to supervise more junior lawyers.
