Our IP and Technology group deals with all aspects of IP work, including copyright, trade marks, passing off, patent disputes, domain name disputes, confidence. Our clients include manufacturers, retailers, designers, publishers of books, newspapers and magazines, website owners and designers, advertising agencies and leading insurers who cover claims for infringement of IP rights and legal expenses insurance for bringing such claims.
We currently seek a high quality lawyer (2+ years’ PQE) with experience at a reputable IP practice and excellent academics. The successful candidate will be well versed in all aspects of contentious IP work but with a particular emphasis on patents, trademarks, copyrights and passing off. Work undertaken will cover the full gamut of contentious IP on a national and international basis.
Work will include:
· Trademarks & Passing Off - advising on the protection of brand names and trading identities including dispute resolution between rights-owners and infringers in issues relating to the protection of registered trademarks as well as unregistered trading names or styles.
· Copyright & Designs - transfer of ownership, international copyright, licensing, infringement, internet issues and injunctions
· Trade Regulations - handling trade descriptions and related matters - areas of advice include Trade Descriptions Act, Advertising Standards Code, Consumer Protection Act, unfair contract terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations and Data Protection
· Patents
· Non contentious practice includes negotiating and drafting licensing agreements and advice on trade mark portfolio management.
The successful candidate would report to Jeremy Drew. He has extensive experience of both contentious and non-contentious IP and IT matters. He advises on all types of dispute resolution including High Court proceedings and mediation.
Position requirements:
2 + years’ pqe
A good city grounding in broad contentious and non-contentious (soft) IP work
Motivated and enthusiastic
Excellent communication skills
Well organised and able to work to deadlines
Excellent and sound academics
Confident and robust personality
Strong personality who likes to work in a team
