Islamic Finance
Nature of work: For over 20 years Norton Rose has been involved in documenting and advising on a wide variety of financings arranged for the benefit of Islamic investors. Our Bahrain, Dubai, London and Singapore offices are particularly well located geographically for Islamic finance related work and each have extensive experience in this area. Our clients? activities in Europe are also growing and our offices in Paris, Frankfurt, Munich and Milan are also becoming involved in our Islamic finance practice. In our capacity as legal advisers we have represented many financial institutions (both Islamic and conventional) actively involved in the structuring of Islamic financial transactions. Norton Rose is therefore well acquainted with the principles to be observed in structuring transactions to comply with the principles and policies approved by the Shari?ah Committees of those Islamic financial institutions. Through its extensive network of overseas offices, particularly in the Middle East, Far East and Europe, Norton Rose is able to draw upon the particular local and regional expertise and knowledge built up in those offices.
Our Islamic finance group?s experience in this area of law is not limited to the Middle East and North Africa region. We have been involved in Islamic financings throughout the world, including Pakistan, Malaysia, Brunei, Turkey, the UK and Indonesia.
Examples of the types of Islamic financings in which Norton Rose has been involved include: Aircraft and ships; Power projects; Telecommunications; Roads; Construction; Industrial and other equipment; Real estate acquisition development and investment; Commodities currencies and liquidity management products; Investment funds; Islamic capital markets; Retail product development (mortgage, savings and consumer finance).
The team: Our Islamic finance group is comprised of over 30 partners and associates spread across our international network of offices. The Islamic finance group has extensive Islamic finance experience, and has advised and documented numerous types of Islamic transactions for a wide range of Islamic financial institutions and conventional banks. The members of our Islamic finance group bring with them different industry expertise and are members of the firm?s aviation, shipping, projects, acquisition finance, banking and structured finance, international securities and collective investments practice areas.
