The role supports the delivery of the R&I teams KM services in the UK and the European network in all respects.
In accordance with Finance Practice Group KM priorities and the objectives set out in the R&I KM business plan:
Technical Know How/Current Awareness
- Creates complex KM content for fee-earner usage including standard forms/templates, current awareness briefings, practice notes, survival guides, research notes, KM tool kits and KM resources for the team.
- Identifies and refines know how content for inclusion into the firms KM system, including new submissions where relevant.
- Captures developments in practice/sector group law, market trends and transactional developments from external and internal sources and translates the impact of developments to know how materials and transaction documentation and delivers practical know-how effectively to fee earners.
- Takes editorial control and manages high quality/up to date KM related content of R&I intranet pages.
- Identifies and evaluates relevant information sources (including cost/benefit analysis) and liaises with the Finance research manager on purchase and management of online services, books, journals and other materials.
- Work with the Practice Team to deliver a basic knowledge, legal and business information training programme for the induction and on-going needs of fee earners in the team.
Business Development
- Identifies issues for “hot topics to support business development opportunities and writes the hot topic product for use with the client/fee-earner.
- Works closely with BD team and prepares contributions to regular client-facing publications.
- Contributes to the KM Business Plan.
- Actively liases and coordinates with the Practice Groups BD team in business development initiatives.
Training/Consultancy
- Leads on and provides ongoing coaching to fee earners on the use of Athena and other KM resources and encourages general self-sufficiency and competency by fee-earners in their use of the KM resources.
- Identifies relevant topics and collaborates in the design and participates in the delivery of the technical training programmes relating to the R&I team.
- Provides direction to fee-earners on appropriate specific legal queries requiring more advanced research or technical assistance and acts as an initial point of contact for R&I related queries from the international network.
- Communication/Networking/Sharing Best Practice
- Participates in cross PG KML legal development groups including the Technical and Opinions Committee, across own practice or business group and other practice groups, sector groups, offices and regions to identify and import/export key legal issues for dissemination within the Practice Group.
- Works to disseminate best practice in Practice Group.
- Participates in firm-wide KM activities such as KML conferences and KML development programmes.
Management
- Regular KM prioritisation planning with the Head of the R&I Group and the Head of Practice Development and assists with work allocation in conjunction with the Practice Team Leader.
- Primary time management of junior resource allocated to the team, including contributing to induction, salary and performance review and development plans.
- As relevant, provides mentoring support and contributes to Practice Services Executive professional development and line management of Practice Services Executives on relevant tasks.
- Captures all chargeable time and non-chargeable time and monitors the same in respect of any junior resource allocated to support the team.
Experience and Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer of at least 4+ years PQE or equivalent with a strong academic background.
- A high level of relevant experience as a practitioner or equivalent practical experience (either as a fee-earner or a KM professional or a combination) in the R&I business area.
- Active interest in law and law reform, both domestic and European/International
