Leveraged and Acquisition Finance Lawyers
Leveraged and Acquisition Finance Lawyers - Job Description
The acquisition finance core team is a five partner, twenty associate group led by Matthew Cottis and working within the wider general banking practice and finance stream of the firm. The team advises on all types of high value domestic and cross-border acquisition finance transactions including leveraged buy-outs, financing corporate acquisitions and public to private transactions.
The work has an increasing cross-border focus reflecting Lovells' international capabilities and the desire of the private equity industry to make more acquisitions in Europe. Anyone working as part of the team can expect to liaise closely with the acquisition finance units in Lovells' offices outside London with particular focus on France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands.
Since the inception of the legal journals reviewing the performance of law firms in England and Wales (for example, Chambers and Legal 500), Lovells has been consistently ranked as a leading player in the area of acquisition finance and is rarely rated outside of the Top 5 firms in this area. Matthew Cottis and Penny Angell (London based acquisition finance partners) are both named as leading practitioners in this area in the legal journals. The team's prime focus is on advising banks and other financial institutions on financing acquisitions. We also advise the private equity institutions who are clients of Lovells' market leading European private equity practice. Our bank clients include Barclays, Bank of Scotland, Mizuho Corporate Bank, Société Generale, Merrill Lynch, BNP Paribas, Nomura and CIBC.
The group has proven very successful with dynamic growth (both organically and through lateral hires) in the last few years, including the recent internal partner promotions of Paul Mullen and Gary Hamp. Our objective is to expand the London team to service the increased workflow resulting from the team's success in attracting new work and to continually give members of the team the opportunity to be involved in client secondments and other client focussed activities. We regard business development and client marketing as key to the growth of our practice area and candidates should be keen to be and will be actively encouraged to be involved in such activities to the fullest extent possible, both individually and as part of the wider team. We should emphasize that the strategy of the finance practice at Lovells is one of continued expansion through internal promotions and lateral growth. The acquisition finance team in London is a group with a strong team ethic and cohesive culture, with attrition rates historically very low. We are keen to be introduced to high quality candidates with approximately 2 to 7 years' post qualification experience or similar experience and consistent with the global nature of our practice, we will consider candidates who have qualified in commonwealth jurisdictions or who have other relevant overseas experience.
It is the policy of the firm to provide equal opportunities for all employees in relation to recruitment, training and promotion. Decisions in these areas will be made only in reference to the requirements of the job and shall not be influenced by any consideration of ethnic origin, religion, sex, age etc.
