Paralegal, Dispute Resolution – 6 month contract - Job Description

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP has an opportunity for a bright and motivated Paralegal to join us on a 6 month contract in our Dispute Resolution Department.

As a Paralegal, you will support partners, associates and trainees on a wide range of cases, either with specific legal projects or assisting with a number of ad hoc tasks for a variety of fee-earners. Your day-to-day activities will vary widely, exposing you to a range of experiences and allowing you to build a rapport with a cross-section of the firm's employees.

As a Paralegal - Dispute Resolution your main responsibilities will involve:

- Managing documents, including imaging, scanning and redacting, database entry and coding, database searching, document review and database maintenance
- Preparing witness and trial bundles, including document searches to identify what documents for inclusion, bulk printing, arranging photocopying, copy checking, indexing, file preparation, collation and database tagging
- Undertaking preparation for court hearings, trials, arbitrations, conciliation conferences etc, including transporting and setting up files and arranging for storage of documents and extra equipment
- Managing hardcopy documents including file indexing, creating spines and covers and boxing for storage
- Proofreading documents including contracts, agreements and transcripts
- Assisting with the preparation of draft bills to be sent to clients

As a Paralegal - Dispute Resolution your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

- Degree in law or with a completed conversion course, or equivalent experience
- Completion of the Legal Practice Course or overseas qualification would be an advantage
- Competence with Word 2000, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer, supported by knowledge of legal search engines such as Butterworths Lexis-Nexis, OJ online and Justis
- Excellent communication and people skills to liaise professionally and courteously with a wide range of people
- The flexibility to undertake off-site secondments if required

What we will be looking for in you:

Enthusiastic, reliable and willing to learn, as a Paralegal for Dispute Resolution with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP you will need to be organised, proactive, self-motivated, efficient and flexible. Confident working independently or as part of a team, you will also need to be comfortable exercising discretion and remaining poised whilst under pressure.

Please note that this role is a 6 month contract, including a 3 month probationary period.
