Pensions & Benefits PSL, English Regions
Pensions & Benefits PSL, English Regions - Job Description
A Professional Support Lawyer is required to support DLA Piper's national UK Pensions and Benefits team. You will work to support the 8 partners and 17 other fee-earners in our offices in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester.
You will be an experienced Pensions lawyer and may have been a PSL before, but previous PSL experience is not essential. You will be a member of the overall Knowledge Management team for the Employment, Pensions and Benefits Group, working with three PSLs supporting the Employment team, all the PSLs being supported by a Senior KM Officer.
The role would be based in any of our Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool or Manchester offices.
This role would permit flexible working and we are looking for someone to work three days a week or their equivalent.
The PSL would work with the national Head of the Pensions team and the Pensions Know-how Partner to identify requirements and priorities, and to put in place and carry out a plan to meet them. Initial priorities are set out below.
· Client publications and training: identifying opportunities to raise the profile of the practice area through monitoring of developments in law, practice and procedure and working with Business Development specialists and fee-earners to provide articles, comments to the press on the topic and identifying needs for regular and ad hoc client updates. Particular hot topics may be suitable for client training to be co-ordinated even if not presented by the PSL.
· Internal updates: working with the Senior KM Officer and the fee-earners to identify and meet the current awareness needs for the practice area, while making best use of external current awareness bulletins.
· Standard documents: drafting and updating core standard form documents and guidance, with specialist input from fee-earning lawyers as required. Liaising with KM specialists to add to relevant internal databases.
· Other know-how: encouraging and driving contributions of work product by and from the fee-earning lawyers to be included on our internal databases. Reviewing contributions as received and, where necessary, carrying out a limited amount of editing to make them suitable as know-how.
· Training: the PSL's primary role in training is in identifying the syllabus for legal training and working with the firm's central Training and Development team to structure and prepare training. The PSL may take part in the delivery of smaller, more informal training sessions on developments as they occur and assisting in the material for external training.
· Assistance to fee-earners: PSLs are experts in their area and are managers of the practice area's knowledge. They are therefore well-placed to help others with problem-solving and finding answers to queries.
· Resources available for fee-earners: PSLs have an important role in representing their practice area in identifying support resources it requires. These may be text books, databases or IT products.
