Public Sector Lawyer - Job Description

PLC is the UK's pre-eminent provider of legal know-how, transactional analysis and market intelligence for business lawyers.

We are launching a new service – PLCPublic Sector and are looking for a senior public sector lawyer to head up the service and a public sector lawyer to work within the service. You will be involved in creating a new online web service dedicated to meeting the know-how needs of lawyers working in the public sector. You will also be an integral part of PLC's wider professional support team, which is now more than 80 strong.

The work – service head

• Developing the vision of the new public sector service and identifying in detail the core content and publishing priorities.
• Working with existing services and additional specialists to produce content.
• Overseeing a commissioning drive to source specialist content from both private practice and the public sector.
• Writing content in all forms, including practice notes, standard documents and legal updates.
• Providing positive leadership in embracing technology in the creation and dissemination of content for the service.

The work – service editor

• Writing content in all forms, including practice notes, standard documents and legal updates.
• Working with existing services to produce content.
• Commissioning specialist content from both private practice and the public sector.
• Embracing technology in the creation and dissemination of content for the service.


Qualities and qualifications

• Significant experience working in the public sector or for public sector clients whilst in private practice.
• A high level of technical skill, including a detailed knowledge of the legal issues affecting the public sector.
• An ability to produce well-written, practical content efficiently.
• Commercial awareness and strong sense of purpose.
• For the service head role only:
o proven ability as a manager and motivator of people, with excellent listening and communication skills; and
o the presence and gravitas to represent the organisation to leading lawyers and others within the public sector arena.
