Our busy Repackaging and Derivatives Group is an acknowledged market leader.
Our work reflects the innovation and dynamism of the financial markets - our practice covers debt capital markets, OTC derivatives and repackagings. We advise on complex new products such as synthetic collateralised debt obligations (CDOs) as well as more traditional repackaging structures combining derivatives and capital markets expertise.
The repackaging and derivatives team is integrated with our strategic financial institutions group which advises on structured financial products, exchange-traded derivatives, exchanges and clearing systems, and cross-border regulation. The practice is an integral part of the firm's consistently top ranked international finance and capital markets business.
THE WORK
- OTC Derivatives
OTC Derivatives at Clifford Chance are not "plain vanilla". While an understanding of the basic ISDA documentation architecture is essential, the work we get from clients is cutting-edge - the work which in-house documentation units are not equipped to handle. We work on new products designed to optimise the respective regulatory environments in which they will be used.
This is, typically, one-off, demanding, and creative legal work, involving our lawyers in close working teams with clients, who include all the world's leading commercial and investment banks. The work includes structuring new derivatives products (including credit, equity, energy an alongside experts from our Securitisation and Tax Groups on other groundbreaking structured finance products, balancing regulatory, commercial and tax considerations so as to deliver the right product for the client.
- Capital Markets
Lawyers in the Group handle a wide variety of mainstream, and more esoteric, capital markets matters. These include setting up EMTN programmes, crafting credit-linked notes, and advising on highly structured tax-driven securities offerings.

EXPERIENCE
We are currenrly looking to hire a lawyer with experience of capital markets and/or derivatives to work with our derivatives and repackaging team made up of 4 partners and 15 assistants.
You should have first class legal and drafting ability; good analytical skills, excellent project management and organisational skills; and excellent written and communication skills.
The international flavour of our work is well matched by our multi-cultural environment. We have lawyers from many jurisdictions working in London. Accordingly, we consider applications from lawyers qualified in common law jurisdictions.
