Senior Solicitor - Newcastle - Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Solicitor to join our Litigation department working on contentious matters in the Environment and Safety team.

Based in our Newcastle Quayside office, this position offers plenty of interesting and challenging opportunities dealing with the contentious side of Environment and Safety work.

We work across a broad range of environment, health and safety and other regulatory law, including; Health and safety prosecution, food safety, fatal accidents, licensing etc.

The contentious work principally involves criminal litigation and civil litigation.

Typical work would include:

- Representation at formal interviews under caution ("PACE interviews") or s.20 interviews with the Police, the HSE, Environment Agency and other regulators;
- Representation at Court hearings including trials and pleas in mitigation in the Magistrates' Court and representation at Licensing Committee hearings;
- Attendance at Inquests;
- Co-ordinating and advising on and crisis management in response to incidents and fronting discussions with regulatory authorities;
- Recovering commercial losses caused by regulatory problems; and
- Applications for new licenses under the Licensing Act 2003.

You should be commercially aware and technically proficient with proven experience of environment and safety work.

There will be direct client contact from day one. The ability to communicate with clients, experts and counsel and excellent service delivery is essential.

An interest in business development would be advantageous.
