Server Operations Analyst III - Job Description

The firm:

Duties:

The following list is illustrative:

• Ensure continued uninterrupted service through identification and problem resolution in a client/server environment.
• Confer with software systems engineers in the event errors require a change of instructions or sequence of operations.
• Perform relevant telephone and desk side support to all staff on all hardware and software platforms supported by the Firm.
• As required, liaise between Firm management, sponsors, users and other IS personnel to communicate issues regarding overall operations status and strategy.
• Where appropriate, attend user groups independently or with senior managers and make recommendations of how improvements can be made.
• Day-to-day operation of the back office computer system in the office.
• Maintain Firm standard setup for all hardware.
• Maintain good working knowledge of all Firm owned application software.
• Evaluation of new products/applications deemed to be appropriate to the Firm’s business.
• Ensure preventative maintenance in your field of expertise is regularly planned and implemented.
• Work with IS management and staff to integrate and continually evolve operations program/project management methods and practices.
• As required, participate in the development of RFP/RFI documentation for vendor selection.
• Contribute to the development, analysis and recommendation of vendors based on prioritized evaluation criteria.
• Create and manage strategic vendor relationships.
• Adhere to all IS and user quality assurance practices.
• Ensure all appropriate hardware and software is configured in accordance with manufacturers’ guidelines.
• Ensure that risk assessments are made before all changes take place.
• Participate in a good proactive working relationship between your team and other teams within the IS Department and the users.
• Communicate all downtime, regular preventative maintenance, security patch updates and software upgrades to all relevant teams.
• Comply with the IS Department’s change request system.
• Ensure overall server software licensing compliance is accurate and current.
• Maintain accurate, complete and up-to date inventory records detailing all hardware owned by the Firm.
• Timely preparation of documentation in a detailed professional electronic format. This documentation must be able to guide other individuals in completing or duplicating procedures undertaken within a project.

Personal Specifications:

• Proven ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Organisational skills and thorough by nature.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and a keen level of attention to detail.
• Must be client focused with the ability to develop good relationships.
• Ability to communicate with end users, including Partners, in a calm, professional manner and explain progress on technical issues to non-technical people.

Experience Required:

• 5+ years of working with Microsoft applications (Windows 2000/2003 Server & Advanced Server, MS clustering, Office XP).
• Experience of configuring and troubleshooting miscellaneous software packages e.g. Sophos, McAfee, VMWare, RSA ACE, Backup Exec.
• 5+years of server hardware, including HP Proliant range, external drive arrays, SCSI, HP blade servers, tape drives.
• (Desirable) Experience of configuring enterprise backup software such as CommVault and TSM.
• (Desirable) Experience of EMC SAN products e.g. Symmetrix.
• 5+years of general networking (Full OSI model) including good understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP protocol suite, DNS, DHCP.
• 2 years’ working with network hardware, data switches and routers, telecommunications protocols and standards, data infrastructure tools and services.
• Requires strong knowledge of server and desktop processing/operating systems that enables them to work at the highest level of all computer operations phases
• Competent to handle complex problems concerning systems operations

Commercial Skills:

• 5 years’ related work experience preferably in professional services.
• Excellent understanding of the Firm’s goals and objectives.
• Ability to conduct and direct research into IS issues and products as required.
• Ability to perform general mathematical calculations for the purpose of creating business cases, budgets, and so on.
• Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Qualifications:

• Batchelor’s degree in the field of computer science or information systems.

Salary:

Market rate – commensurate with experience.

Hours:

Monday – Friday 9.30am – 5.30pm with flexibility in accordance with the needs of the business.
