Solicitor - Insurance & Reinsurance - Job Description
Working within our Insurance and Reinsurance team in Bristol advising national and international clients such as Lloyds TSB, RBS, AIG and many others. Our caseload comprises all classes of professional indemnity, bankers’ bonds and financial institutions’ liability, through to such areas as aviation, construction, pension trustees, solicitors and engineering.
Key Performance Indicators
· Efficient professional support for partners
· Provide in-depth analysis and briefing for partners
· Excellent drafting skills
· Professional relationships with clients
· Conduct research required to support client activity
· Achieve target utilisation rates for fee earning time
· Production of professional articles for publication
Technical Knowledge
· Knows how to locate complex documents and precedents
· Stays aware and abreast of current law through reading, newsletters and attending seminars
· Takes responsibility for matters such as preparing bible of documents, registration
· Undertakes research and produces clear, accurate findings tailored to specific issues
· Prepares covering e-mails/letters for circulation to clients and other parties
· Makes use of precedents in drafting basic documents using clear, well though-out and structured communication
· More applied documentation is likely to require input / checking from senior colleagues
Client Management
· Will take instruction from both clients and senior colleagues on new matters
· Able to discuss and negotiate on basic / intermediate documents and points of law in relation to project
· Will be working on client projects, preparing draft reports under supervision of more senior lawyers
· Prepares meeting agendas
· Will start to run client meetings to discuss points of law and gain an understanding of client requirements
· Starts to take decisions and responsibility for aspects of client matters
· Able to prepare bill narratives, summarising the nature of completed work
· Attend and assist the organising and hosting of marketing events
· May form part of specific teams during proposal and presentation stages
· Shows a developing awareness of client and sector issues
Personal Management
· Will have developed research skills through attendance at internal and external training courses
· Manage own time efficiently, delivering work on time and to specific requirements
· Understand the availability and use IT resources within the firm.
· Full understanding of time recording and its impact on client billing – preparing bills as necessary
· Act as mentor / coach to trainees and summer placements, assisting in their development and growth
· Aware of own personal objectives and those of others providing feedback to colleagues regarding performance
· Build internal relationships through own and other practice areas, working with and supporting both junior and senior colleagues
· Starting to raise profile in the industry by being involved with external bodies
· Attends meetings with clients
