Our NHS Litigation Authority (“NHS LA”) team is looking for an experienced/senior Litigation Assistant to assist the team with it’s busy caseload of NHSLA employers and public liability claims. Whilst the candidate will be part of the NHS LA team which does both clinical negligence and personal injury cases the candidate will only be dealing with personal injury claims. This is a great opportunity for candidates who have an interest in this area to join a highly reputable department. The candidate will be advising NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts on all aspects of personal injury claims. The candidate will be managing litigated claims with a value of up to £30,000.

 Strong IT Skills, including intermediate level across all Microsoft Office programmes, as the candidate will be expected to work without the assistance of a secretary.
 3-5 years defendant EL/PL experience*.
 Able to run own caseload of claims in litigation up to £30,000 with some supervision.
 Fast track and/or Multi-track claims experience.
 File management – effective use of diary system/case management system to ensure capture of management information.
 Client contact both on the telephone and experience in drafting client reports.
 Experience in instructing experts, drafting Defences, assessing liability and quantum and negotiating settlement.

Desirable:
 Court experience in attending Case Management Conferences.

An important part of the role is promotion of the legal awareness across Ramboll. This role is key in ensuring that the Legal team support to the business is efficient, accurate and proactive so that contract negotiations can progress as swiftly as possible.

Lawyer or an engineer / QS with equivalent legal qualification and previous experience in a contract reviews/ legal support role in construction.

Has an interest and experience in the construction industry and knowledge of the construction process and methodologies. Experience in procurement, contract drafting and negotiations, contract risk assessment, claims or disputes desirable.

• External clients, their solicitors and other advisors

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CONTRACT REVIEW AND OTHER NON-CONTENTIOUS MATTERS
Review contracts and other project legal documents including responding to internal requests for contract amendments, advising Project teams on risks in contracts and preparation of the correspondence to the clients.
Lead or assist in the contracts negotiations with the client or the client’s representatives.
Respond to internal legal queries advising on appropriate contract form, maintain up to date contract and legal information on the company intranet and respond to other ad hoc legal queries (research if necessary). Prepare guidelines and forms for company intranet.
Work closely with other members of the Legal team and share administrative duties, as required.

RISK MANAGEMENT:
Advise RUK project directors and project managers on risks related to contractual queries arising within the projects including potential fee issues, claims or incidents; prepare or review the response to the clients.

TRAINING:
Promote knowledge and understanding of the basic problems in consultancy contracts across the business by series of presentations, road shows, newsletters and surgeries.
Assist in development and updates of the company training and knowledge-sharing materials related to legal and commercial matters.

INTERNAL SYSTEMS:
Comply with legal documents procedures and Ramboll project management protocols.
Apply IT systems and software, both internal and proprietary including contract databases and mail management systems.
