Our litigation department advises clients involved in a diverse range of UK and international commercial and tax disputes. In addition to UK based clients, we also handle claims on behalf of overseas clients of PwCs international network of firms.
We provide innovative and cost effective strategies throughout the course of a dispute from pre-action negotiations to trial or settlement. This includes the use of alternative dispute resolution procedures, including negotiation and mediation.

Technical:
Possesses detailed knowledge of legal principals for tax litigation and has a developed knowledge of other practice areas
Is recognised as an expert in tax litigation
The candidate needs to have a hands on approach to running litigation cases
The candidate may have come from the HMRC (or have an understanding of HMRCs practice and approach on key direct tax issues, including their policy and decision making process) or private practice or the Bar
Able to identify and analyse legal and commercial issues in direct tax litigation cases and recognises where changes in law may require amendments to precedents
Able to draft complex documentation, delivering work which is well structured, concise and accurate
Maintains their knowledge of current law and shares knowledge with colleagues.
Responsibilities:
We advise on litigation, tax disputes with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), arbitration, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods.

Bringing and defending court proceedings
Instructing and liaising with specialist counsel
Negotiating commercial settlements
Promoting mediation as an alternative to court litigation
Advice on all aspects of arbitration agreements and proceedings
Enforcements of court judgments and arbitration awards nationally and internationally
Risk analysis to identify areas of potential dispute and advice on preventative measures.
