The PRS team provides solutions to the Insurance Property Damage sector and Costs Services. The PRS team in Birmingham and Bristol PRS has 4 Partners, 8 Associates, 36 Solicitors, 4 Legal Executives and 57 paralegals who provides expert and practical advice over a range of areas:
Public liability / property damage claims
Professional indemnity claims - defending Architects, Surveyors, Engineers etc
Property subsidence , property recovery, policy coverage advice/fraud
Motor recovery
Costs
Core Responsibilities
This role is within the Large Loss Property Damage Team based in Birmingham. The Large Loss team is one of the specialisms within the Property Recovery Service Group (PRS) which is based in both Birmingham and Bristol.
The team is expanding in all areas and now seeks a 0-3 year PQE solicitor or barrister to work on matters including:-
• Property damage recoveries (Claimant work) typically over £150,000 in value and covering a range of perils including fire, flood and escape of water.
• Public liability matters relating to property damage (Defendant work) of any value; and
• Policy coverage and fraud (advisory and Defendant work) on property damage and liability matters again of any value
The candidate will have the opportunity to become involved in marketing and client facing activities in order to build the business and his or her career. This is an expanding business with good opportunities for career progression.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a successful track record in the following areas:
• Acting for a number of large commercial / insurer clients in fast and multi-track property litigation disputes. Ideally this experience would demonstrate a mixture of Claimant and Defendant (i.e. recovery and liability) disputes, also with some coverage and indemnity experience.
• Handling a varied workload in accordance with insurer client protocols and with an appropriate level of supervision.
• Ability to exercise full compliance with Client and internal protocols for billing and credit control and demonstrate a high level of financial management in respect of own files.
• Ability to meet and exceed minimum budgeted annual target of 1440 chargeable hours per year.
• Excellent client care skills
• Commitment to personal and technical development with a view to the delivery of commercially focused legal services to our clients.
• Supporting marketing and business development activities within the team.
• Building effective internal and external networks in order to maximise cross-selling opportunities.
• Maintaining an awareness of the firm's strategies and plans.
• Handling confidential information in line with the firms data security protocols
Key Skills
We are looking for a qualified solicitor, barrister or experienced Paralegal or Legal Executive with at least 6 months of relevant litigation experience. Commercially and financially astute and technically excellent with a flair for accurately analysing complex claims.
The successful candidate will be able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day-to-day issues within the team's supervisory structure. With a team oriented, collegiate approach and a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team. You must be flexible, innovative and open to efficient working methods as well as IT literate, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Our Claims Solutions Group advises insurers, self insured and corporate clients in their defence of claims relating to fatal accidents, catastrophic injuries, rehabilitation, employer liability, product liability, sports injuries, aviation injuries, occupational stress, repetitive strain, occupational cancers, new diseases, noise- induced hearing loss, safety, health and environment and severe road traffic accidents. Services cover both high value specialist claims and smaller, less complex ones. In addition to this, the team provides advice on fraudulent claims and coverage disputes.
Core Responsibilities
•Acting as a first point of contact for designated clients.
•Resolving general accounting matters / issuing bills.
•Building relationships with client contacts at all levels (due to the nature of the work, contacts range from in house legal teams to production departments, human resources teams, line managers etc)
•Day to day responsibilities will include but is not limited to the following:-
Court Hearings and advocacy (where appropriate), analysis of evidence and setting case strategies encompassing both technical and commercial considerations, obtaining and drafting pleadings, witness statements and letters of response, conducting (telephone) negotiation of claims and costs, preparing detailed counter schedules, sound file management – to include consistent and accurate: billing; management of WIP and file closures; updating Management Information.
•Participating in marketing and client training events where necessary
•Handle confidential information in line with the firms data security protocols
Key Skills
•One to Three years experience of dealing with Employers Liability / Public Liability claims, both pre-litigation and litigated is essential
•Experience of working in a target driven commercial / KPI & MI focussed environment would also be an advantage.
•Excellent commercial awareness and an interest in broader business issues.
•This individual will be expected to be able to identify market trends, to provide commercially rounded advice to clients and view things from a business perspective.
•Flexible with an ability to adapt to rapid change, both internally and in the context of clients' businesses.
•Team player with a collegiate approach to knowledge sharing and problem solving, particular in the case of multi-site clients which are supported across the team.
