MMS is the largest of the Scottish-based full service commercial legal firms. With over 600 people we are also one of the top 50 in the UK. This level of resource coupled with strong management and a clear vision of where we want to go as firm has resulted in impressive growth over the last few years. Last year our turnover rose by 14% and our profitability by 20% and we expect to beat these figures this year. In the recent Career Report 2006 by The Lawyer, MMS was listed as the top Scottish firm in terms of number of partner appointments - twenty - in the last three years. The current Chambers and Partners Directory credits us with 37 recommended individuals, more than any of our Scottish-based competitors.
Our success is not limited to Scotland however. Our success in that market has allowed us to invest in growing our London presence as well. Our London office has grown by 40% in terms of numbers of employees in the last 18 months partially through merger with the highly respected corporate boutique, The City Law Partnership. On the international front, we are the sole UK member of the leading global association of independent legal firms, Lex Mundi. Our Chairman, Michael Walker is also Chairman of Lex Mundi. All of which gives our largest clients access to lawyers in 98 countries across the world, whilst giving our staff and lawyers an opportunity to meet and learn from their peers in these firms, picking up and adopting best practice across the full spectrum of our operation in doing so.
