A brilliant opportunity has arisen for a Trade Mark, Copyright and Designs Paralegal with an Intellectual Property boutique in central London.

The firm’s clients are diverse and international, and the successful Paralegal will advise on trade marks, copyright and design matters for clients ranging from chart-topping singers to global automotive manufacturers and FMCGs. This advisory work will be hands-on and you’ll be trusted to liaise with clients directly.

The focus of this Trade Mark Paralegal role is soft Intellectual Property. The firm’s trade mark administration team is responsible for the renewals and recordals side, enabling the Paralegal to fully focus their skills on soft IP Paralegal work. This will include, amongst other responsibilities, preparing cease and desist letters and corresponding with opponents; preparing and filing oppositions; preparing witness statements; and proving (or disproving!) use. The successful Trade Marks Paralegal will also analyse and report on trade mark searches. You may also be asked to assist with filing the occasional trade mark.

Given the level of responsibility and autonomy this position provides and the legal knowledge required, the firm seeks experienced candidates with a minimum of two years’ trade mark, copy right and design experience from another recognized IP firm or in house. Pure patent or technology experience is not suitable for this position. Interested applicants must hold a 2.1 or higher at undergraduate level, ideally in law. Those with ITMA/Queen Mary qualifications are also encouraged to apply.

The successful Trade Mark Paralegal will have experience of preparing and sending cease and desist letters and undertakings, preparing and filing oppositions, ordering UK/EUTM searches, filing and registering trade marks at UK and EUTM level and EU design applications, liaising with foreign attorneys to conduct trade mark searches and providing updates, advice and options to clients in a concise, friendly manner.

This Trade Mark Paralegal role would suit those with a passion for Intellectual Property and a desire to develop and take responsibility for their own work. The successful candidate will be someone who sees the law, and its practice, as central to their daily work.
