The vacancy is in the specialist Insurance and Reinsurance group based in the firm's office in the heart of the insurance district of the City. The teams focuses upon "big ticket" international and domestic Insurance and Reinsurance disputes. The specialist areas include Property Risks, Products Liability and other Casualty and Construction Risk work for the firm's commercial and insurance clients. The work also includes dispute resolution (frequently multi-party) coverage advice, policy drafting, regulatory compliance and advice on jurisdiction and applicable law. The team also deals with property damage and business interruption claims, general contractual disputes and other commercial litigation.

The team is well established and has a particularly strong reputation amongst the firm's London Market and composite insurance clients for the provision of policy coverage advice (including in relation to global programs and facultative reinsurance) and has recently been involved in policy coverage disputes arising from energy projects in the Far East, South America, India and Africa.

The firm attracts substantial cases where all lawyers in the group have exposure to high-value interesting work for well-known market leaders. We are recruiting in order to meet existing case load and the successful candidate will be integrated directly into one or more of the case teams with good prospects for early experience of Trial/Arbitral hearings.

Due to the heavy-weight and specialist nature of the work you'll be working closely with the team as well as interacting with other colleagues in the group.

As well as providing assistance to other members of the team on large and complex matters you'll be handling your own middle value caseload under the appropriate supervision. You'll also be involved in client relationship management and in the development of relationships with new clients (including the provision of training/ seminars and firm profile-raising activities).

You'll be involved in a variety of work and other opportunities and will be encouraged to develop your skills and to become involved with the development of the practice.

You will have relevant previous experience in insurance, reinsurance and/or professional indemnity work typically gained through up to 4 years experience within a city litigation practice.

It is important that you have a strong academic background with at least a 2:1 at degree level. You'll also have excellent analytical and problem solving skills as well as an ability to devise and apply sound and effective strategies to complex cases. It is equally important that you have the ability to analyse the commercial as well as the legal aspects of a dispute.

From a client perspective you must be approachable and be able to inspire confidence and trust. You'll have the ability to demonstrate sound commercial judgement and common sense whilst providing pragmatic and practical advice.

In order to succeed within this role you will be hardworking and have the ability to work under pressure and manage a demanding workload over a sustained period of time.
