More to Law than London

Published on: 23 May 2019

Recent TotallyLegal job inventory level data indicates that whilst the number of legal vacancies in London and the South East has declined slightly, there has been a notable rise in jobs in the Northern regions.

Our reports showed a significant annual increase in legal jobs in regions such as the East Midlands (+50%), Yorkshire and the Humber (+32%), Scotland (+21.5%) and North West England (+21%).

The UK job market on the whole has experienced a similar shift, according to the KPMG and REC Report. There has been a decline in permanent appointments in London and South East England, whilst job vacancies in the North have seen a modest increase.

There was also a marked rise in temporary roles in the North of England, contrasting with a decline in temporary positions in the South.

London may be the capital, but it is not the be all and end all for legal careers.
