In-House Commercial Solicitor

Hull UK City of Culture is seeking an In-House Commercial Solicitor (Legal Counsel) to join its in-house legal and corporate team for a fixed term contract lasting until the end of 2017.

This is a quality in-house opportunity, where the successful individual will work within the wider corporate and programming teams and get exposure to all sorts of interesting and quite unique commercial, IP, branding, ticketing and retail work.

This role is likely to be suitable for a 1-3 PQE solicitor, or a NQ solicitor with appropriate experience. Candidates falling outside these guidelines are also encouraged to apply.

It's a fixed term contract of course, and some applicants in permanent jobs might be nervous about this. However, a role like this could lead nicely to a more permanent in-house move in the future, and might be the perfect step for some individuals who would otherwise struggle to make this move, for instance a corporate solicitor with no commercial contracts drafting experience or without any experience on an in-house secondment. This client is open on experience type as long as you have the right attitude, potential to do the work, and you are switched on and hungry for an opportunity like this.

You will be provided with the right support, with an experienced senior commercial solicitor in the team, and a suite of template precedents to work with, as well as a panel of law firms to outsource work to.

Salary is around the £40,000 mark dependent on experience, although candidates above and below this marker should not be put off from applying - I'm happy to chat through the job spec and salary and benefits package with anybody who has any questions.

In 2017 the eyes of the world will be on Hull as it becomes UK City of Culture. The delivery organisation for the project, Hull 2017, has been set up to produce 365 days of transformative culture during 2017 through a programme of diverse and high profile events and projects.

We're looking for an experienced lawyer with an excellent track record to support the legal needs of the organisation and help ensure a successful 2017.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with and advise individuals across the organisation and to manage relationships with legal teams from the wide range of organisations across the region, country and world which Hull 2017 will be working with.

You will be based at our offices in central Hull. You will also work closely with colleagues across the city and the region, and liaise closely with a range of internal stakeholders including finance, business affairs and production and operations colleagues.

Responsibilities:

Advising and assisting on legal matters in connection with activities across the organisation, with a particular emphasis on the events being produced by Hull 2017.

Drafting and negotiating a wide variety of legal documentation including funding, production and commercial contracts.

Providing legal support to teams across the organisation, including the commercial, production, operational and communications teams.

Liaising and negotiating with counterparts at suppliers and partner organisations.

Liaising with and managing external lawyers supporting Hull 2017.

Supervising the management of all legal documentation for the organisation.

Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Executive Director.
