One of the UK’s leading litigation specialists is seeking an accomplished costs specialist to support their compliance and knowledge management function in London. This is a challenging and high-responsibility opportunity which would see you get involved in the funding aspects of several complex, high-profile cases and report directly into the lead partner in the team in what promises to be a busy and demanding position.
You would be expected to liaise with the fee-earners and the costs team, undertaking thorough legal, risk and financial assessments and analysis throughout cases to ensure all matters relating to costs are dealt with quickly and efficiently. To succeed in this role, you will ideally need a blend of proven litigation and costs experience with a passion for mathematics, finance, IT and project management.
Typical duties in this role would include:
- assisting fee earners on conditional or contingency fee cases and compiling the associated documentation;
- working alongside fee-earners and the lead partner to ensure essential matters are progressed and documentation is approved before dispatching to the client;
- clarifying specific details of fee & funding arrangements and recording all data and contract on the CRM and spreadsheets;
- ensuring high risk case plans are prepared, kept updated and presented to the committee;
- monitoring and flagging any discrepancies with cost budget/estimate agreed with the client using Cost Management software;
- working with the IT and Costs teams to develop software and its functionality for roll-out to other departments.
To be considered for this role you should have:
- specific costs/funding experience from a legal, accounting or insurance background;
- a good knowledge of Professional Conduct Rules and client care principles including but not limited to, conflicts of interests, confidentiality and disclosure;
- project management skills;
- a good grasp for mathematics and calculations;
- previous cost management software experience – ideally Interaction CRM and Elite 3E Practice Management Systems;
- experience with time recorded budgets/management.
