Accountabilities

This is a newly created role within an expanding team and organisation.

You will be responsible for providing advice in relation to contentious commercial and construction matters to the UK business. The advice must benefit the company so they can make commercial, cost effective and strategic advice as soon as possible.

On a daily basis, you will work on PFI and standard suite construction contracts and can expect to resolve disputes ranging from defects, delays and disruption, loss and expense and variation claims and payment disputes.

You will handle negotiations and commercial settlements but on occasion, you may refer to external counsel for adjudications, advocacy and complex / high level litigation.

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, 3 – 8 years PQE (ideally)
  • Personable, robust, confident and have a flexible attitude
  • Essential experience – construction litigation/ contentious construction law/ dispute resolution in construction law. We might consider commercial litigation lawyers who have worked with construction/ property development or engineering or energy/utilities sector businesses
  • You would have exposure to the standard suite contracts (JCT, NEC, FIDIC etc) as well as PFI contracts – reviewing them would be sufficient.
  • Experienced in handling some type of ADR preferably settlements and negotiations

Salary and Culture

In return, you will be rewarded with a salary plus a car allowance, bonus and benefits. Some degree of flexible working arrangements may be considered.

In this sizeable organisation, which boasts an international legal team, you will report to a very friendly Dispute Resolution Lawyer and work alongside a well-integrated and dynamic group of individuals. You will enjoy a great deal of autonomy, independence and job satisfaction. Support will be provided to all new joiners to ensure successful integration within the business.

The development opportunities come down to you – you can expand your experience within the litigation field but there is also the prospect of developing your knowledge and skills across the other departments or perhaps jurisdictions.
