Department Overview

The team is part of the wider legal group in London and serves a broad spread of businesses from structured/secured and syndicated lending (Leverage, Media Telecom, Corporate Acquisition Finance, Real Estate, Infrastructure & Energy, Export Finance and Syndicated Loans) to Coverage and Transaction Banking (including corporate lending and flow banking products such as Cash Management and Trade Services). The team also handles some Corporate Finance and Restructuring work.

Each of the 8 lawyers in the team based in London are general banking lawyers in that they must be able to pick up queries and transactions from any of the businesses, but each also maintains a core area of specific expertise and interest, ensuring that there is a depth of knowledge, experience and expertise in each of those areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assist in the structuring, drafting and negotiation of documentation
  • Advise the business, management and the relevant committees of the Bank on banking, company and insolvency law issues arising in the course of advisory and transactional work
  • Report potential legal risk issues to the head of the team
  • Together with the other team members contribute to the maintenance and communication of know-how, legal updates and templates
  • Manage or supervise multi-jurisdictional projects
  • Where appropriate, instruct and supervise external lawyers both inside and outside the UK

Essential Experience

  • English law qualified solicitor/barrister
  • Broad experience in international banking and finance (preferably including experience in an international law firm and an investment bank) with a particular interest in, and a high level of specific experience of, leveraged and other similar structured lending
  • 2 to 3 years PQE
  • First class negotiation and drafting skills
